I just got back from a little trip out to New Orleans with my dad for a few days. While walking around on the second night, the sounds of Gypsy Jazz ringing through the streets lured us into this great little bar called The Spotted Cat on Frenchman Street. Once inside, we were greeted by the steady strumming and blazing horns of Vavavoom. We liked them so much that we ended up canceling our plans for leaving the next day and stuck around for one more night just so we could see them again. I encourage you to check out their website and while you're there, buy a CD! And definitely, if you're in NOLA or planning on heading there soon, don't miss this great band!

If your like me, you have completely stopped downloading music "illegally" due to all the fuss over it. However, thanks to the Russian website AllofMP3.com I can download complete albums for about a buck a pop. And, it's completely legal (for now). Check it out.

Go to pandora.com and type in your favorite artist...from there Pandora will play songs from your favorite artists as well as other artists that you will be sure to enjoy just as much. The sound quality is very good as well. I have been sitting at work all day listening to one great song after another. Give it a try!

Check this one out. This site contains some interesting statistics including the most covered songs, the most covered artist, the most covering artist and what I think is the most interesting: a chart comparing the years between the cover and the original. If this trend continues, we'll be listening to REO, Molly Hatchett, and the STYX again in no time!

"Who's your favorite band?" An unanswerable question to any music lover. That's always been a tough one for me anyways, a question that my immediate family and friends have long learned to avoid. I have never even been able to give a straight answer to the question that usually precedes that one: "What's your favorite type of music?" Well, now I am breaking the taboo, I would like to know: Who are your top 10 favorite bands? I'm not sure how to kick this all off (I wouldn't dare start by trying to list my top 10... not yet), but here is a Top Ten list from MSNBC. I found there were a couple of suprises here, some names that would and some that wouldn't appear on my list, but its a good catalyst anyways. Ladies and Gentlemen, the polls are now open, let your voice be heard!

One Leg Up has raised the bar for the local music scene of Asheville and I guarantee that once you listen to a few of their songs, your feet will start tapping and your lips will purse as you try to reclaim their sound through whistling the leads around the house (or office) .
